Grosjean pulls out of Masters Tennis event

MONTE CARLO, Monaco, April 8 (UPI) -- French No. 1 Sebastien Grosjean has pulled out of next week's claycourt Tennis Masters Series event due to a left thigh injury.

The 24-year-old was hurt in his first singles Davis Cup win over Switzerland's George Bastl on Friday and was forced to miss Sunday's second round against world No. 3 Roger Federer.

Grosjean was replaced by teammate Fabrice Santoro, who lost in straight sets, leading to France's elimination at the competition's quarterfinal stage for the first time in three years.

Grosjean reached the semifinals of the Monte Carlo tournament last year, only to lose to eventual winner Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain. Grosjean hopes to be back in action for the Rome Masters Series tournament held from May 5-11.
