Calgary 4, Edmonton 1

EDMONTON, Alberta, April 6 (UPI) -- Craig Conroy scored twice Saturday night as the Calgary Flames ended their NHL season with a 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

Jarome Iginla had a pair of assists for the Flames, who can finish no better than 12th in the Western Conference. They have missed the playoffs in a franchise-worst seven consecutive seasons.

At least Calgary left its mark on the Oilers, who enter the postseason on a sour note, going winless in their last four games (0-1-3).

Edmonton, which is relegated to eighth place with Saturday's loss, will face either Dallas or Detroit in the first round of the playoffs.

While the teams are headed in opposite directions, it was a typical game between provincial rivals. Flames defenseman Robyn Regehr set the tone, elbowing rookie Ales Hemsky in the first period.

The teams combined for 112 penalty minutes. Edmonton was called for 17 penalties, resulting in 10 shorthanded situations - both season highs.
