Tampa Bay 6, NY Yankees 5

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., April 5 (UPI) -- The Tampa Bay Devil Rays found the New York Yankees' weak spot Saturday night and handed them their first loss of the season, scoring two runs in the eighth inning and one in the ninth for a 6-5 victory.

Al Martin stroked an RBI single to right field over the head of a drawn-in Raul Mondesi as the Devil Rays snapped a four-game losing streak, rallying for three runs against the Yankees' bullpen.

Regarded by many as the best team in baseball, the Yankees have a weak spot in the bullpen, especially with closer Mariano Rivera on the disabled list.

Jeff Weaver handed a 5-3 lead over to the bullpen in the eighth inning, but Chris Hammond allowed two runs while recording only two outs. Antonio Osuna (0-1) worked out of the inning but lost it in the ninth.

With the lowest payroll in baseball, the Devil Rays had lost four straight, but Marlon Anderson tied it with a two-out RBI single in the eighth and Martin won it with his one-out hit in the ninth.

Lance Carter (1-0) picked up the win after giving up a hit and walk in 1 1/3 innings.
