Minnesota 2, Cincinnati 1

SARASOTA, Fla., March 25 (UPI) -- Kenny Rogers pitched five scoreless innings and Thomas Watkins singled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning Tuesday as the Minnesota Twins edged the Cincinnati Reds, 2-1.

Recently signed to replace the injured Eric Milton, Rogers allowed just two hits. The veteran lefthander walked two and struck out two.

Chris Gomez had two hits, including an RBI single in the fifth inning for Minnesota.

Felipe Lopez singled home Cincinnati's lone run in the sixth.

Cincinnati starter Jeff Austin pitched 4 1/3 innings and yielded one run and four hits.
