Tennesee 95, Alabama State 43

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., March 22 (UPI) -- Tennessee improved to 41-0 in women's NCAA games played on its home court in a 95-43 trouncing over Alabama State Saturday in the first round of the Mideast Region.

The Lady Vols (29-4) scored the first 12 points of the game, took a 52-28 lead into the half and finished the contest with a 33-6 run. They will play either Virginia or Illinois in the second round on Monday.

Shyra Ely had 17 points and eight rebounds and Brittany Jackson hit four 3-pointers and added 16 points in only 21 minutes as 10 of the 11 Tennessee players scored.

Kara Lawson added nine points and eight assists, Courtney McDaniel scored 12 and Gwen Jackson 11 for Tennessee, which has advanced to the second round in each of the 22 NCAA Tournaments played.

Crystal Kitt had 16 points and nine rebounds and Shameka Jackson added 11 points for Alabama State (20-11).
