Colorado 9, Oakland 3

PHOENIX, March 11 (UPI) -- Garrett Atkins had four hits, including a homer, and Chris Stynes added three hits as the Colorado Rockies pounded the Oakland Athletics, 9-3.

Atkins, the Rockies' 2001 Organizational Player of the Year, is having a torrid spring. In nine games, Atkins is batting .722 (13-for-18) with a homer and eight RBI. A third baseman at Class AA Tulsa last season, Atkins was the designated hitter against the Athletics.

Stynes drove in two runs and scored twice and Ron Belliard added two hits and two runs for the Rockies, who recorded 16 hits.

Starter Denny Stark gave up three runs and three hits in three innings but notched his third win.

Oakland starter John Halama took the loss, surrendering seven runs and nine hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Terrence Long had three hits for the A's.
