Utah 83, Miami 73

MIAMI, March 10 (UPI) -- Karl Malone collected 29 points and 13 rebounds Monday night as the Utah Jazz handed the Miami Heat their 10th loss in 12 games, 83-73.

The Heat, who fell behind for good at 4-2, shot just 30 percent in the first half but trailed just 48-41 when Coach Pat Riley was ejected with 6:34 left in the third quarter. He picked up two technicals for arguing a foul on Brian Grant.

Utah opened a 15-point advantage four minutes later and took a 66-57 lead into the fourth quarter. Miami did not score for the first 3:53 of the final period and got no closer than seven points thereafter.

Matt Harpring added 17 points and John Stockton 14 for the Jazz, who had lost five of their previous seven contests but extended their winning streak against the Heat to five games.

Utah shot just 44 percent (28-of-63) but limited Miami to 33 percent (27-of-82).

Heat rookie Caron Butler scored 19 of his 24 points in the third quarter but was blanked over the final 12 minutes. His production in the third period was a team season high for any quarter.

No other player reached double figures for Miami, which capped a five-game homestand with four straight defeats.
