Carolina 6, Columbus 5

RALEIGH, N.C., March 10 (UPI) -- Rookie Brad DeFauw, making his NHL debut, scored twice, including the eventual game-winner, and Craig Adams recorded his first career two-goal game as the Carolina Hurricanes nearly wasted a pair of four-goal leads Monday night before posting a 6-5 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Recalled from the minors Sunday, DeFauw netted his first goal 13:48 into the contest to give the Hurricanes a 3-0 lead.

Carolina had four-goal cushions after each of the first two periods, but David Vyborny registered his first career two-goal game to help Columbus pull within 5-4 with 5:42 remaining.

DeFauw's power-play tally with 2:37 left was answered just 11 seconds later by Geoff Sanderson to make it 6-5, but the Hurricanes managed to run their winning streak to three games.

Vyborny, Sanderson and defenseman Jaroslav Spacek each collected three points for the Blue Jackets, who have lost six straight on the road.
