Atlanta 12, NY Yankees 2

TAMPA, Fla., March 5 (UPI) -- Gary Sheffield and Ramon Castro each had two hits and drove in two runs Wednesday to pace the Atlanta Braves to a 12-2 Grapefruit League rout of the New York Yankees.

The Braves took a 1-0 lead into the second inning and scored four more off starter David Wells, who was tagged for five runs and nine hits over three innings with a walk and two strikeouts.

Mark DeRosa, Julio Franco, Javy Lopez and Vinny Castilla each had two hits for the Braves, who recorded 17 hits.

Starter Horacio Ramirez allowed four hits over three scoreless innings with two strikeouts for Atlanta.

Yankees first baseman Jason Giambi was a late scratch with abdominal muscle stiffness.

Todd Zeile and Fernando Seguignol drove in runs for New York.
