Steelers re-sign Tuman

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Tight end Jerame Tuman of Pittsburgh Friday avoided the free agent market by re-signing for three more years with the Steelers.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

"I would like to thank Mr. Rooney, Kevin Colbert, Coach (Bill) Cowher, and the whole Steelers organization for giving me an opportunity to play for a few more years here," Tuman said. "All along, it is what I wanted and I am very thankful that I got the chance to continue playing here."

Tuman, who turns 24 in March, started seven games last season after Mark Bruener was placed on injured reserve. In 13 games, he had four receptions for 63 yards and one touchdown.

A 1999 fifth-round pick out of Michigan, Tuman has 11 receptions for 159 yards and two touchdowns in 52 career games.
