Maryland 91, Clemson 52

COLLEGE PARK, Md., Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Steve Blake had 14 points and seven assists as part of a balanced attack Tuesday night as the 14th-ranked Maryland Terrapins easily disposed of Clemson, 91-52.

Maryland (18-7, 10-4 ACC) has enjoyed having Blake in the starting lineup for a school-record 129 of 132 games. The Terrapins have won 100 games with Blake on the floor and he is the only player in conference history to accumulate more than 1,000 points, 800 assists, 400 rebounds and 200 steals.

"Steve Blake -- it just seems whenever we need him he's there for us," said Maryland Coach Gary Williams. "It's not just been this year, it's been a career thing with Steve. When we get into a tough situation, he's there for us."

Blake had his No. 25 jersey raised to the rafters at the Comcast Center before the game, becoming the 15th Terrapin to receive that honor.

The Terrapins beat the Tigers for the 11th straight time, pulling away after building a slim 36-31 halftime edge. Blake made back-to-back three-pointers to cap a 13-2 run that started the second half and opened a 49-33 advantage.

Ryan Randle led four players in double figures with 18 points as Maryland shot a season-high 63 percent (34-of-54), the seventh-highest total in school history.

Drew Nicholas and Jamar Smith each each netted 13 points.

Nicholas, Randle, Calvin McCall, and Tahj Holden were the other four seniors who joined Blake in the starting lineup and were honored before the game.

"Our seniors had a lot put on them this year because of what happened last year," Williams said. "People didn't think that they could be any good going into the season because they played roles for us last year."

Clemson (15-9, 5-8) had a three-game winning streak snapped and fell to 1-6 on the road.

"We hit a tidal wave in the second half and a barrage of threes," said Clemson Coach Larry Shyatt. "The disappointing part of that was they were open threes. They were in transition, over helping in some cases, and some pretty good passing by Maryland."
