Carolina 2, Tampa Bay 2 (OT)

RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Kevin Weekes stopped 34 shots Friday night, including a pair of breakaways in overtime, as the Carolina Hurricanes rallied for a 2-2 tie with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

After twice squandering one-goal leads, Tampa Bay had the best chances in the extra session. But Weekes made a glove save on Martin St. Louis on a breakaway in the opening minute, then came up with a sliding stop on Vincent LeCavalier's partial breakaway three minutes later.

Tampa Bay outshot Carolina, 7-3, in a wild overtime, the third in five games between the Southeast Division rivals this season.

Vaclav Prospal scored both goals for the Lightning, who were denied a season-high fourth straight victory but extended their unbeaten streak to five games.

Held to 11 shots in the first two periods, Carolina doubled that total in the third and tied it on a deflection by Jeff O'Neill with 9:48 left.

From the left corner, rookie Ryan Bayda swept the puck in front. Despite being by draped by defenseman Nolan Pratt, O'Neill -- stationed in the left faceoff circle -- was able to get his stick on the puck and poked it past Nikolai Khabibulin for his 24th goal.

Prospal gave the Lightning the lead 17 seconds into the contest. Just over 12 minutes later, Carolina tied it on Jan Hlavac's rebound goal.

Prospal's power-play tally with 2:32 left in the second gave Tampa Bay a 2-1 lead.
