Texas Tech 75, Nebraska 49

LUBBOCK, Texas, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Texas Tech coach Bob Knight joined an elite list Wednesday night, notching his 800th victory as the Red Raiders posted a 75-49 triumph over Nebraska.

Knight became the fifth coach to reach the 800-win plateau, joining Dean Smith (879) of North Carolina, Adolph Rupp (876) of Kentucky, Clarence "Bighouse" Gaines (828) of Winston-Salem State and Jim Phelan (827) of Mount Saint Mary's.

Knight improved to 800-303, with 662 of those wins coming at Indiana from 1971-2000. He recorded his 100th victory in his last season at Army before reaching 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 and 700 with the Hoosiers.

With Phelan set to retire after this season, Knight will become the leader among active coaches.

Texas Tech won for just the second time in five games and improved to 13-5 this season, 3-4 in the Big 12 Conference. Nick Valdez led the Red Raiders with 24 points.
