Dallas 101, New York 90

NEW YORK, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Dirk Nowitzki collected 30 points and nine rebounds and Michael Finley added 20 and nine assists Friday night as the Dallas Mavericks snapped a 10-game losing streak at Madison Square Garden, 101-90.

Dallas guard Steve Nash was none of nine from the field and finished with just four points, but backup Nick Van Exel contributed 17. The Mavericks had not won in New York since Nov. 6, 1990.

The game was tied, 74-74, entering the fourth quarter before reserve Adrian Griffin hit a jumper 30 seconds into the period that commenced a 6-0 run and gave Dallas the lead for good.

Nash ended a 9-0 burst with two free throws that gave the Mavs a 92-80 advantage with 6:39 to play and the Knicks got no closer than six points thereafter.

Dallas improved its record to 18-2 against Eastern Conference teams, including 8-0 against Atlantic Division opponents. The Mavericks are a league-best 15-6 on the road.

Latrell Sprewell scored 21 points and Kurt Thomas chipped in 17 with 11 rebounds for New York, which was attempting to win a season-high fourth straight game.
