New York 72; Miami 65

NEW YORK, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Latrell Sprewell and Kurt Thomas Monday combined for 39 points as New York eased past Miami, 72-65.

The pair scored eight points apiece in the third quarter as the Knicks rallied from an eight-point deficit.

New York trailed, 45-37, with 6:33 left in the period, but closed the quarter with a 19-9 burst. New York took a 56-54 lead on a basket by Shandon Anderson with 34 seconds remaining and never surrendered the lead.

Sprewell scored 14 points in the first quarter and finished with 24. Thomas added 15 and eight rebounds for the Knicks, who posted back-to-back wins for the first time in three weeks. New York has won just three of its last nine overall.

Eddie Jones led Miami with 19 points and seven assists. The Heat have dropped eight of 10 and missed an opportunity to post consecutive wins for the first time since a three-game streak from Dec. 27-Jan. 1.
