Connecticut sets NCAA victory record

HARTFORD, Conn., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Diana Taurasi scored 22 points Saturday to lead No. 2 Connecticut to its NCAA record 55th consecutive victory -- a 72-49 decision over Georgetown.

The Huskies broke the NCAA mark for consecutive wins by a women's team, which Louisiana Tech established early in the 1980s.

Taurasi finished five of 13 from the field, including three of seven from three-point range. She also pulled down eight rebounds in 29 minutes of action.

Sophomore center Jessica Moore had seven points, 12 rebounds, including six off the offensive glass, and a pair of blocks for Connecticut, which last lost on March 30, 2001 in the NCAA national semifinals to eventual champion Notre Dame.

Carmen Bruce had 15 points and three steals and Rebekkah Brunson added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Hoyas (11-3, 2-2), who shot just 34 percent from the floor and had 19 turnovers.
