Marcus Camby injured in return

DENVER, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- It took Denver Nuggets forward-center Marcus Camby 38 games to appear on the court this season. It took him 15 seconds to disappear again.

Camby suffered a sprained ankle in the opening moments of his season debut Friday night, perhaps putting next week's New York homecoming in jeopardy.

Just five days before their only trip to New York, the Nuggets activated Camby from the injured list. He started at forward against Cleveland but twisted his ankle in the early going. Camby did return at the start of the second quarter.

Acquired from the Knicks in a draft day trade involving Antonio McDyess, Mark Jackson and several draft picks, the 6-11 Camby had not played since undergoing hip surgery on Oct. 10.

Camby initially suffered the injury Feb. 1, which sidelined him for the remainder of his final season with the Knicks.

The 6-11, 235-pound Camby has averaged 11.5 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 323 career games over six seasons with the Knicks and Toronto Raptors. But he has never played more than 63 games and was limited to 29 last season.

Denver also activated forward Chris Anderson from the IL. Anderson has missed the last 22 games since fracturing his right thumb against Golden State on Nov. 29. In 15 games, Anderson has averaged 5.7 points and 4.5 rebounds.

To make room for the pair of big men, veteran Mark Bryant and rookie guard Predrag Savovic were placed on the injured list.
