NY Rangers 2, Washington 1 (OT)

WASHINGTON, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Joel Bouchard put a rebound past Olaf Kolzig 1:58 into overtime Wednesday night to give the New York Rangers their season-high third straight win, 2-1 over the Washington Capitals.

Defenseman Dave Karpa got a pass from Radek Dvorak and put a shot from the slot off the crossbar. With New York's Mark Messier tied up with Brendan Witt, Bouchard sneaked in and backhanded the rebound past Kolzig for his fourth goal of the season and first career overtime game-winner.

The Rangers cooled off Jaromir Jagr, limiting him to one assist after he collected 11 points in his previous two games.

Kip Miller scored on the Capitals' second shot of the game, but Mike Dunham turned aside the final 23 to improve to 3-1-2 lifetime against Washington.

Defenseman Tom Poti had the other goal for New York, which has won four of its last five games and climbed into a tie with the New York Islanders for fourth place in the Atlantic Division.
