LOS ANGELES, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Mike York scored twice Thursday night to help lift Edmonton to a 5-4 win over Los Angeles.
Tommy Salo made 25 saves as the Oilers held on.
The Oilers completed a 2
1 road trip, but almost squandered a 5-2 lead for the second time in five days. They surrendered three goals over the second half of the game Sunday and settled
for a 5-5 tie in San Jose.
York's second goal of the game and 16th of the season gave Edmonton another 5-2 advantage at 2:39 of the third period, but Salo yielded a goal to Derek Armstrong less than a minute later and rookie Joe Corvo scored his second career goal at 11:11 to get Los Angeles to within one.
Ziggy Palffy appeared to get the equalizer with 7:35 left, but was ruled offsides. Palffy had another chance with 62 seconds to play and Kings goaltender Felix Potvin on the bench for an extra attacker, but his shot from the left of crease could not get past Salo.
Marty Reasoner, rookie Ales Hemsky, and defenseman Eric Brewer also scored for the Oilers, who have won two in a row on the road following a six-game winless stretch away from the Skyreach Centre. Already without injured center Mike Comrie, Edmonton also did not have Anson Carter, who had the flu.
The Kings got center Jason Allison back in the lineup, but they lost their fourth straight home game and for the eighth time in the last 10 contests overall. Allison missed eight games after aggravating a knee injury in a 3-1 loss at Chicago on Dec. 22.
Eric Belanger also returned for Los Angeles and scored his first goal since Dec. 17.
