Phillies sell out final game at The Vet

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- The Philadelphia Phillies, getting ready to move into a new stadium, announced Thursday that their season finale against the Atlanta Braves officially is sold out.

On the first day that individual game tickets became available, more than 30,000 were sold for the final game at Veterans Stadium. The Sept. 28 contest is scheduled to be the final one in the 32-year history of the stadium.

"Close to 50,000 tickers were sold today, over 30,000 for the final game," Phillies director of sales John Weber said. "Today's sale, coupled with our current season ticket base and our special ticket offer to season and group customers, led to the sellout."

Phillies Manager Larry Bowa and former great Greg Luzinski greeted fans, many of whom lined up in the early hours of the morning.

Philadelphia's home opener is April 4 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
