Philadelphia 5, Atlanta 4

ATLANTA, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Mark Recchi scored twice in the third period Sunday as the Philadelphia Flyers concluded a season-high seven-game road trip with a 5-4 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers.

The Flyers scored five goals for the seventh time this season and first in 12 games. But at the same time, they allowed four tallies for just the sixth time this season.

Recchi ended a seven-game goalless drought 11:19 into the third and gave the Flyers a 4-3 lead. He netted the game-winner just over three minutes later, two minutes after Marc Savard forged a 4-4 tie.

Justin Williams, defenseman Dennis Seidenberg and rookie Radovan Somik scored the other goals for Philadelphia, which went 4-2-1 on the trip.

Patrik Stefan, Brad Tapper and Shawn McEachern tallied for the Thrashers, who have never beaten Flyers coach Ken Hitchcock. They were 0-5 when he coached Dallas and are 0-2 against him this season.
