North Carolina St. 75, Virginia 63

RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Julius Hodge recorded 21 points and 11 rebounds Sunday night as No. 24 North Carolina State rebounded from an embarrassing loss at Massachusetts to defeat Virginia, 75-63, in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.

Hodge hit a jumper to give the Wolfpack (8-2, 1-0 ACC) a 58-47 lead with 4:45 remaining, then converted a driving layup to make it 66-54 with 1:57 to play.

Cliff Crawford, who was questionable with a back injury, added 14 points for North Carolina State.

The Wolfpack snapped Virginia's six-game winning streak and beat the Cavaliers at home for the sixth straight time. Virginia dropped to 0-4 at the RBC Center.

North Carolina State struggled to a 29-24 halftime lead but maintained a double-figure lead for most of the second half.

Devin Smith scored 14 points for Virginia (9-3, 0-1), while Travis Watson added 10 and 12 rebounds.
