New York 98, Indiana 96

NEW YORK, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Charlie Ward sank the go-ahead basket with 20 seconds left and Latrell Sprewell and Kurt Thomas hit key free throws Friday night as the New York Knicks rallied for a 98-96 victory over the Eastern Conference-leading Indiana Pacers.

Trailing, 94-93, the Knicks went ahead as Ward led the Knicks on a three-on-one break after a turnover. He missed the layup, but got the rebound and hit the follow shot.

Reggie Miller missed a jumper and Sprewell sank two free throws with five seconds to go. Brad Miller hit two free throws for Indiana and Thomas made one of two for the final score.

Sprewell scored 25 points and Howard Eisley added 17 for the Knicks, who won their third straight and ended the Pacers' four-game winning streak.
