Xavier dismisses G Dave Young

CINCINNATI, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Senior guard Dave Young has been dismissed from Xavier's basketball team, coach Thad Matta said Monday.

Young averaged 5.1 points and 2.3 rebounds in 15.2 minutes off the bench for the 19th-ranked Musketeers this season.

"There were clearly some differences in philosophy about his role in our program," Matta said. "We have offered to help him if he decides to pursue other opportunities, whether academically here at Xavier or elsewhere. Dave is on track to graduate in May and we will support him in his efforts to complete his degree."

Young, who was ineligible to play as a freshman, played in 66 games, making 32 starts.
