Tom Barrasso placed on waivers

ST. LOUIS, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- The St. Louis Blues cleared up their muddled goaltending situation Thursday by placing veteran Tom Barrasso on waivers.

Barrasso, 37, had not played since Nov. 29, when he suffered a back injury and was placed on injured reserve.

In six appearances after being inked to a one-year contract on Nov. 4, Barrasso posted a 1-4-0 record with a 3.28 goals-against average and .879 save percentage.

Barrasso owns a 369-277-86 career mark with 37 shutouts and a 3.24 GAA. The fifth overall pick in the 1983 draft joined Buffalo right out of high school that year before being traded to Pittsburgh, where he captured Stanley Cup championships in 1991 and 1992.

Brent Johnson made his season debut with St. Louis on Dec. 12 after missing the team's first 28 games with a high ankle sprain. In five games, the 25-year-old Johnson is 2-1-2 with two shutouts and a 1.95 GAA.

Fred Brathwaite, who will resume his backup duties, has a 10-7-3 record with a 2.50 GAA and two shutouts in 21 games this season.
