FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Dec. 22 (UPI) -- The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel reported Sunday that defensive tackle Darnell Dockett will not be allowed to play in the New Year's Day game in New Orleans.
"It's my understanding, and I was briefed(Saturday), that he was suspended for a violation of team rules," school spokesman Frank Murphy told the newspaper.
While the reason for the suspension is unclear, Murphy said that it had nothing to do with the university police department's ongoing investigation into gambling rumors surrounding former quarterback Adrian McPherson, who was dismissed on Nov. 25.
The Seminoles (9-4) announced last week that quarterback Chris Rix was declared ineligible for failing to take a final exam.
Dockett, a junior, has started at defensive tackle the last three seasons and is the school's all-time leader in career tackles for losses with 48. However, he has been bothered by knee and heel injuries this season.
