Connecticut 17, NC Asheville 67

HARTFORD, Conn., Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Ben Gordon scored 29 points Saturday as eighth-ranked Conneciticut remained perfect on the season with a 117-67 rout of North Carolina-Asheville.

Gordon had nine points during a 20-2 run that helped Connecticut (7-0) to a 47-27 cushion with 68 seconds left in the first half. He capped the burst with one of his five 3-pointers on the day.

Emeka Okafor added seven of his 21 points during the burst as the Huskies played nothing like the team that stumbled to a 30-9 halftime deficit against Massachusetts two weeks ago.

Fourteen different players scored for UConn, which shot 64 percent from the floor (47-of-73), hitting nearly half of its 3-point attempts (10-of-21). Its starting five was 33-of-47 from the field.

Alex Kragel scored 15 points and Andre Smith added 14 for NC Asheville (3-4), which suffered its third loss to as many ranked opponents this season.
