Landeta out with calf injury

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- The injury-plagued Philadelphia Eagles have placed punter Sean Landeta on injured reserve with a torn right calf muscle.

Landeta, the NFL's all-time leading punter, was having another outstanding season before suffering the injury on his final punt in Sunday's 10-3 victory over St. Louis. He was averaging 42.9 yards per punt this season, and had placed 19 punts inside the 20.

Landeta, 40, has punted 1,268 times during his career for a 43.3-yard average. He is the only punter in NFL history to record a 42-yard average in 17 different seasons.

Despite being down to third-string quarterback A.J. Feeley, and suffering numerous key injuries on defense, the Eagles (9-3) are tied with Tampa Bay for the NFL's best record, and are on the verge of their second straight NFC East title.

To take Landeta's roster spot, the Eagles signed punter Jason Baker, who was released by San Francisco last week.

Baker signed a two-year contract despite the fact that his net of 32 yards in 12 games this season was lowest in the NFL.
