John LeClair has shoulder surgery

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- John LeClair, the Philadelphia Flyers' leading goal-scorer, underwent successful surgery on his right shoulder Wednesday.

LeClair dislocated his right shoulder in a loss to Pittsburgh on Nov. 27. Surgery to repair a cartilage tear was performed by Dr. Peter DeLuca and Dr. Paul Marchetto at Hahnemann University Hospital, the team announced.

"Everything went well," Dr. DeLuca said in a statement. "He had a complete tear of the labrum off the bone and it came back nicely. The ligament tightened up appropriately."

LeClair, who was released from the hospital soon after the surgery with minimal pain, will have his arm in a sling for a few weeks and is expected to miss 10 to 12 weeks during rehabilitating, which will begin later this week.

The 33-year-old LeClair has 11 goals and six assists in 21 games this season, ranking second on the team in points. He has 352 career goals, including 303 in 560 games with the Flyers.

Philadelphia has lost two of its last three games without LeClair, scoring just two goals in that span. On Monday, the Flyers were shut out for the fourth time this season, a 1-0 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils.
