Boston Col. 44, Rutgers 14

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass., Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Derrick McKnight rushed for a career-high 205 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries Saturday as Boston College closed the regular season with a 44-14 Big East Conference victory over Rutgers.

McKnight surpassed his previous career best of 171 yards set last week against Syracuse and he went over the 100-yard mark for the eighth time this year. The junior raised his season total to 1,367 yards and also caught a 52-yard touchdown pass.

The Eagles (8-4, 3-4) overcame a poor performance by Brian St. Pierre, who completed nine of 23 passes for 157 yards with three interceptions. St. Pierre did throw for two touchdowns.

Boston College took the lead for good, 10-7, on Brandon Brokaw's six-yard run with 1:44 left in the first period.

St. Pierre and McKnight hooked up to make it 17-7 with 4:19 left in the second quarter before Sand Sciortino kicked a 37-yard field goal as time expired to give the Eagles a 20-7 lead at the intermission.

McKnight's three-yard touchdown run 3:20 into the second half ignited a 24-point third quarter for the Eagles.

Ryan Hart completed 16 of 30 passes for 115 yards with a pair of interceptions for the Scarlet Knights (1-11, 0-7). Jason Nugent paced Rutgers on the ground with 106 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries.

The Scarlet Knights concluded another dismal year with a nine-game losing streak. Rutgers went winless in the Big East for the third straight year and has dropped 22 consecutive conference games.
