NAPLES, Fla., Nov. 24 (UPI) -- Rocco Mediate and Lee Janzen fired a 12-under-par 60 for the second consecutive round Sunday to win the Franklin Templeton Shootout.
Mediate and Janzen recorded a three-round total of 31-under 185 to edge the teams of Matt Kuchar-David Gossett and John Huston-Jeff Maggert by one stroke and collect the top prize of $500,000.
Mediate and Janzen did just enough in the scramble format in Sunday's final round after setting the stage for victory with 12 birdies during their bogey-free round in Saturday's best-ball format.
It was the first shootout title for Janzen and Mediate. Janzen was a runner-up with Hale Irwin in 1996 and with Chip Beck in 1995.
Kuchar and Gossett and Huston and Maggert did all they could to get past the eventual winners, posting final-round scores of 56 and 58.
