Montreal 3, Pittsburgh 2 (OT)

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Defenseman Andrei Markov scored 2:25 into the extra period Wednesday night, giving the Montreal Canadiens their second straight overtime win over the slumping Pittsburgh Penguins, 3-2.

Two nights after Donald Audette got the winner 72 seconds into overtime, Markov played the hero. He got a pass from Doug Gilmour and stickhandled at the top of the right faceoff circle before cruising into the slot.

One of the NHL's most improved players, Markov shot against the grain and surprised goaltender Jean-Sebastian Aubin, beating him over the left shoulder.

Two of Markov's four goals this season have been game-winners and he leads Montreal defensemen with 14 points.

Yanic Perreault and Richard Zednik also scored for Montreal, which extended its unbeaten streak against Pittsburgh to eight games (7

1).

Jan Hrdina had both goals and Mario Lemieux collected a pair of assists for the Penguins, who have dropped three overtime decisions during a season-long, seven-game winless streak (0-3-1-3).
