USA 2, El Salvador 0

WASHINGTON, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Ben Olsen made an emphatic return to the United States national soccer team Sunday, scoring the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory over El Salvador in a friendly match at RFK Stadium.

In front of 13,590 fans, the United States closed its 2002 schedule with a 12-6-2 mark, setting a record for most victories in one year.

It was Olsen's first goal since 2000. He had not been with the team since he suffered the devastating ankle injuries that kept him from two MLS seasons and the World Cup.

"It felt good to come home and just get back with Bruce (coach Bruce Arena) again," Olsen said. "Getting the goal was a nice touch."

Olsen's last appearance for the United States came in Oakland in January 2001 against China.

In the 31st minute, Chris Klein served a fine ball from the left flank in the 31st minute to find a waiting Olsen, who headed it past a beaten Juan Gomez. It was Olsen's fourth international goal.

Sasha Victorine got his first goal when he ran a give-and-go with Clint Mathis in the 60th minute.
