IRVING, Texas, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- The Dallas Cowboys, who have been hit hard by injuries along the offensive line this season, have been told that MRI on the right knee of offensive tackle Javiar Collins confirms he has a knee sprain.
Collins is expected to miss about 4-6 weeks, but there was no mention about surgery.
Collins, a 6-6, 322-pound second-year pro out of Northwestern, suffered a knee injury last Sunday in the Cowboys' 17-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He has started at right tackle in place of perennial All-Pro Larry Allen, who still is recovering from a sprained ankle and has been sidelined the last two games.
"I have been coaching 33 years and never seen anything like this offensive line situation," said Coach Dave Campo. "It's mind-boggling."
With Collins out, the Dallas Morning News reported Wednesday that the Cowboys will be using a different set of offensive linemen for the eighth consecutive week Sunday, when Dallas (2-5) plays at Detroit.
The injury plague has led to the Cowboys' signings of Kurt Vollers and Ross Tucker in the past week.
Tucker was signed off waiver from the NFC East rival Washington Redskins, and Vollers was on the practice squad of the Indianapolis Colts.
Also out are rookie center Andre Gurode (big toe sprain), and guard Kelvin Garmon (hip contusion).
