Montreal 5, Ottawa 3

MONTREAL, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Jeff Hackett turned away most of an Ottawa assault and Yanic Perreault and defenseman Patrice Brisebois scored less than two minutes apart in the third period Saturday night to lift the Montreal Canadiens to a 5-3 victory over the Senators.

Hackett stopped all 23 shots he faced in the first period, helping Montreal grab a 1-0 lead on defenseman Craig Rivet's power-play goal.

In the second period, Hackett surrendered a power-play tally to Martin Havlat that tied the game. But he turned away nine other shots, including a pair of breakaways.

Richard Zednik's power-play goal in the final minute of the second gave the Canadiens the lead for good before Perreault and Brisebois victimized goaltender Patrick Lalime in the third.

Hackett allowed a pair of third-period goals but finished with 45 saves as Montreal improved to 1-2-2 in its home building, where the Canadiens play 10 of their next 16 games.
