ANAHEIM, Calif., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Andy McDonald scored the game-winner with just 11 seconds left in overtime Sunday as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim posted a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.
Ducks defenseman Ruslan Salei let go a shot from the right faceoff circle, which was stopped by goaltender David Aebischer. But McDonald got to the rebound and beat the Avalanche netminder high to the glove side.
Making his first NHL start in the first duel in league history between Swiss goaltenders, Martin Gerber recorded 22 saves for his first career win.
Joe Sakic scored his second goal of the game with 9:25 left in regulation as the Avalanche rallied twice to knot the contest before having their nine-game unbeaten streak (7
2) at Anaheim snapped.
