Capitals claim Salomonsson from Devils

WASHINGTON, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- The Washington Capitals on Tuesday claimed right wing Andreas Salomonsson off waivers from the New Jersey Devils.

Salomonsson played in 39 games with the Devils as a rookie last season and had four goals and five assists.

A native of Sweden, Salomonsson, 28, will join the Capitals Thursday at Carolina for the second of eight consecutive road games.

An eighth-round pick in the 2001 draft, Salomonsson played 11 seasons in the Swedish League and recorded 79 goals and 86 assists for 165 points and 350 penalty minutes in 381 regular season games. He played 10 seasons with Modo before joining Djurgardens IF for their 2001 championship run.
