Vancouver 5, San Jose 3

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Trent Klatt scored his second goal of the game to break a tie with 4:37 remaining Saturday night as the Vancouver Canucks posted a 5-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks, who are off to their worst start in nine years.

San Jose erased a two-goal deficit and tied it at 3-3 with 5:23 to go on Marco Sturm's second of the night. During a scramble, Canucks defenseman Mattias Ohlund tried to clear the puck off the goal line but ended up knocking it in for a Sharks' score.

Just 46 seconds later, Daniel Sedin whipped a pass from the outer edge of the left faceoff circle to the low slot, where Klatt redirected it from his knees past goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff.

Matt Cooke added an empty-net goal in the final minute for Vancouver, which is 2-0 for the first time since 1999.

Teemu Selanne had a goal and an assist for the Sharks, who have opened the season with two losses for the first time since 1993. They took all four meetings with the Canucks last season, and this was San Jose's first loss at GM Place since Jan. 28, 2000.
