RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 2 (UPI) -- The Atlanta Thrashers scored four goals on their first 13 shots and Milan Hnilicka made 21 saves Wednesday night in a 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Yuri Butsayev and Toni Kallio scored first-period goals and Shawn McEachern and Yannick Tremblay tallied in the second. Kallio's score came on a power play while McEachern snuck a shorthanded goal behind goaltender Kevin Weekes.

Carolina's Josef Vasicek scored on the power play in the second period to avoid the shutout.

Sami Kapanen, who assisted on Vasicek's goal, left with an apparent left ankle injury in the second period and did not return.
