John Halama (6-5) yielded two hits over four innings of relief to record the Mariners' fifth win in their last six games and hand the playoff-bound Angels a fifth defeat in six contests.

Seattle manager Lou Piniella, who was serving a one-game suspension for tossing first base while arguing in a Sept. 18 game against Texas, sat among the media as bench coach John McLaren took over managerial duties.

Seattle starter Freddy Garcia exited with a 6-3 lead after seven innings, but Anaheim struck back for three runs in the eighth on Brad Fullmer's homer off Doug Creek and RBI singles by Benji Gil and Orlando Palmeiro off Aaron Taylor.
