Brad Wilkerson's two-run shot off Elmer Dessens marked his 20th home run, breaking the Expos' rookie record which was shared by Andre Dawson (1977) and Larry Walker (1990).

Endy Chavez singled to center in the fifth to extend his hitting streak to 16 games, moving him into second place on the Expos' all-time rookie list. Pepe Mangual owns the record with an 18-game hitting streak in 1975.

Joey Eischen (6-1) allowed just a hit in the scoreless 11th for Montreal. Cincinnati reliever John Riedling (2-4) had a throwing error which helped load the bases in the bottom half and failed to get out of the jam.

Russell Branyan homered twice for the Reds, whose three-game winning streak was snapped.
