Georgia 13, South Carolina 7

COLUMBIA, S.C., Sept. 14 (UPI) -- South Carolina's Andrew Pinnock fumbled the ball away within reach of the Georgia end zone with 12 seconds to play Saturday, allowing the 10th-ranked Bulldogs to hold on for a 13-7 victory over the Gamecocks.

The costly fumble was South Carolina's third of the day.

South Carolina committed seven turnovers, including six fumbles, in last week's loss to Virginia as it fell out of the rankings for the first time since 2000. The Gamecocks were victimized by turnovers again Saturday.

Corey Jenkins led the Gamecocks on a 60-yard drive that brought them to the Georgia three. But Pinnock fumbled Jenkins' pitch on fourth down and Bulldogs safety Thomas Davis recovered the ball at the two-yard line.

Georgia (2-0) escaped with its first victory over South Carolina since 1999 and benefited from an opponent's miscue for the second time in as many weeks. Clemson kicker Aaron Hunt missed a potential game-tying field goal in the final minutes of the season opener two week ago.

Defensive end David Pollack gave Georgia a 10-0 lead in the third quarter when he hit Jenkins in the end zone as he attempted to pass. Pollack grabbed the ball off Jenkins' hand for an interception in the end zone.

Georgia's David Greene bounced back from last week's poor performance and completed 11 of 19 passes for 169 yards. Musa Smith had 27 carries for 103 yards for the Bulldogs.

Jenkins finished 14 of 24 for 180 yards and rushed for 101 yards on 17 carries. He also threw an interception as South Carolina (1-2) committed four turnovers.

The game was delayed for close to an hour in the first half due to rain and lightning.
