TUSCALOOSA, Ala., Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Shaud Williams rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown Saturday night as the Alabama Crimson Tide overcame a slow start and cruised to a 33-7 victory over North Texas.
Alabama (2-1) suffered a difficult 37-27 loss at Oklahoma last week and was sluggish in the beginning of its first game at Bryant-Denny Stadium this season.
The Crimson Tide sustained a pair of early long drives but had to settle for a pair of short field goals by Michael Ziffle.
Ahmaad Galloway's three-yard run with 8:35 left in the first half gave the Crimson Tide a 12-0 lead and they took a 19-7 advantage into the locker room after a four-yard touchdown run by Santonio Beard.
Williams ran for a 41-yard score in the third quarter and backup quarterback Brodie Croyle added a four-yard touchdown run in the fourth to cap the scoring.
The Crimson Tide may have had an edge in scouting the Mean Green since coach Dennis Franchione was familiar with some of North Texas' personnel from his days at Texas Christian. Franchione's Horned Frogs defeated North Texas three seasons ago.
North Texas (1-2) was outgained, 529 yards to 120. Alabama did not punt all night.
