Oklahoma St. 45, Northern Iowa 10

STILLWATER, Okla., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Josh Fields completed 23 of 33 passes for a career-high 261 yards and two touchdowns Saturday night as Oklahoma State coasted to a 45-10 victory over Division I-AA Northern Iowa.

Oklahoma State (1-1), which won its seventh straight home opener, scored 45 straight points after spotting Northern Iowa (1-1) a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter.

William Darr ignited Oklahoma State with a 29-yard interception return for a touchdown with 27 seconds left in the first period, the first of his two interceptions.

Fields, who also rushed for a score, tossed a six-yard touchdown pass to Willie Young 4 1/2 minutes into the second period to give the Cowboys the lead for good.

Rashaun Woods had nine receptions for a career-high 175 yards for Oklahoma State, leading a balanced air attack that saw nine different players catch at least one pass. He has caught at least two passes in 20 consecutive games.

Freshman running back Vernand Morency rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown for the Cowboys. That followed an impressive debut last week when he rushed for 108 yards on 13 carries in a loss to Louisiana Tech.

Oklahoma State opened a 28-7 lead at the intermission, the most points the Cowboys have scored in the first half of a game since they scored 36 against Baylor in 2000.

Northern Iowa (1-1), currently ranked second in NCAA Division I-AA, scored its only touchdown on a five-yard run by Adam Benge.
