Boston College 34, Stanford 27

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Derrick Knight scored on a 12-yard touchdown run with 36 seconds remaining Saturday as the Boston College Eagles rallied for a 34-27 victory over the Stanford Cardinal.

The outcome spoiled the head coaching debut of Buddy Teevens, who took over for Tyrone Willingham, now the Notre Dame coach. He spent the past three seasons as an assistant under Steve Spurrier at Florida.

Stanford opened a 27-17 lead on Micheal Craven's 33-yard interception return for a touchdown with 1:44 remaining in the third quarter.

But Boston College's Josh Ott returned a fumble to the Stanford 10, setting up Knight's nine-yard touchdown run that made it 27-24 with 12:15 remaining.

The Eagles (2-0), who posted a lackluster season-opening win over Connecticut last week, tied the contest on Sand Sciortino's 40-yard field goal with 6:27 to go.

Knight's second touchdown run capped a five-play, 65-yard drive that consumed only until 82 seconds.

Brian St. Pierre completed 22 of 36 passes for 260 yards and a touchdown for the Eagles, but was intercepted three times.

Stanford's Kyle Matter connected on 17 of 27 for 244 yards and a touchdown. He was intercepted once and sacked five times.
