Chicago White Sox 5, Toronto 4

TORONTO, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Jose Valentin homered twice, including the go-ahead shot in the seventh inning, as the Chicago White Sox won their season-high seventh straight game Tuesday night with a 5-4 triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays.

With the game tied 4-4 in the seventh, Valentin hit his second homer of the game off Toronto starter Esteban Loaiza (7-8), sending a 3-2 offering over the wall in right field. It was Valentin's 21st home run of the season and 13th career multi-homer game.

Jon Rauch (1-1) came on in the fifth inning for starter Rocky Biddle and notched his first career victory despite giving up two runs in two innings. Damaso Marte escaped trouble in the ninth inning for his ninth save.

Orlando Hudson and pinch hitter Tom Wilson began the frame with back-to-back singles, but Hudson was picked off second by catcher Mark Johnson. After pinch hitter Dave Berg walked - moving pinch runner Dewayne Wise to second - and Shannon Stewart popped out, Marte uncorked a wild pitch that pushed the runners to second and third.

But Marte induced Eric Hinske to pop out to shortstop to end the contest, handing the White Sox their 10th victory in 12 games.

Loaiza surrenderd a season-high three homers, including a solo shot to Paul Konerko in the top of the sixth that gave Chicago a 4-2 lead. Josh Phelps, who was named American League Rookie of the Month earlier in the day, tied the contest in the bottom of the frame with his 10th homer.
