St. Louis 6, Chi. Cubs 3

CHICAGO, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Jamey Wright pitched six innings a day after being acquired by St. Louis and Albert Pujols homered and drove in four runs Friday to give the Cardinals a 6-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

With most of the baseball world focused on a possible strike, Cardinals general manager Walt Jocketty quietly obtained Wright (6-13) from the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday for minor league outfielder Chris Morris and a player to be named.

Wright did not know if he would get a chance to put on a Cardinals' uniform with a strike deadline set for Friday. He traveled from Milwaukee to Chicago to accompany his new teammates and was at the hotel when the players got word that a new collective bargaining agreement had been reached.

Pujols celebrated the news with a three-run homer in the first inning and an RBI double in the second as St. Louis built a 6-0 lead against Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano (2-6).

Pujols is tied with Houston's Lance Berkman for the league lead with 107 RBI.

Wright threw four scoreless innings before allowing two runs in the fifth on two hits, two walks and a wild pitch.

Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa, the league leader with 43 home runs, missed his sixth straight game with a strained neck muscle.
