Texas 6, NY Yankees 2

NEW YORK, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Mike Young went three for five with two RBI and Joaquin Benoit gained his first win since June 24 Sunday as the Texas Rangers defeated the New York Yankees, 6-2.

Entering the game with a 6-0 record in seven career starts against Texas at home, Andy Pettitte (8-5) struggled through 5 1/3 innings. He gave up six runs, five earned, and nine hits. The lefthander, who had been victorious in his last four decisions, walked one and struck out four.

In his sixth start of the season, Benoit (3-2) yielded two runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. The 23-year-old righthander, who won for the first time after two losses and two no-decisions as a starter, walked three and struck out five.

Young gave the Rangers some breathing room in the second, driving in a run with a single to increase their lead to 3-0. The second baseman added an RBI double in the sixth to cap the scoring for Texas, which has won four of its last six contests in New York.

Todd Hollandsworth had three hits and Herbert Perry belted a solo home run, just the fifth homer allowed by Pettitte this season. It was also the 12th consecutive game in which Texas has homered.
