Franchitti wins CART race

MONTREAL, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Scotland's Dario Franchitti won the inaugural CART Molson Indy Montreal Sunday at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.

Franchitti drove the KOOL Honda/Lola to his ninth career win and second this year by 2.588 seconds over CART points leader Cristiano da Matta, who started on the pole in a Toyota/Lola. His other win this season also was on Canadian soil in Vancouver.

Da Matta was followed by Brazilian countryman Tony Kanaan, who scored his third top-four finish in the last four races.

Paul Tracy of Canada was fourth with Jimmy Vasser in fifth. Michel Jourdain Jr. of Mexico was next, giving him points in all 13 races this season.
