BALTIMORE, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Tony Batista's one-out single in the 11th inning Thursday night lifted the Baltimore Orioles to a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

The win was the Orioles' ninth in 11 extra-inning games this season.

With runners on first and second and one out, Batista hit a 1-1 pitch from Travis Harper (5-7) into left field, delivering Jerry Hairston with the winning run.

Hairston started the winning rally when he beat out a ground ball to third by sliding head first into the first base bag. He moved to second on a single to left by Gary Matthews Jr.

Baltimore closer Jorge Julio (5-5) allowed a hit and a walk in two innings and has yielded just one earned run in his last 34 innings -- a span of 33 appearances.

Harper started the 11th, relieving lefthander Wilson Alvarez, who allowed two hits in three innings.
